Dual / Multi-Voltage
Countries with multiple voltage levels
Overview
Some countries deliver power at more than one voltage. Examples: Belize (110/220V), Brazil (127/220V — varies by region), Cuba (110/220V), Suriname (127V predominantly), and several Caribbean territories. In these countries, hotels and rental properties typically expose outlets at both voltages, often clearly labelled.
Travelers visiting dual-voltage countries should verify which voltage is at the specific outlet they plan to use. Modern dual-voltage electronics handle both ranges natively; single-voltage appliances must match the outlet voltage or be paired with a converter.
A bidirectional step-up/step-down converter (V5R or VCC combo kit) is the safest bet when traveling through multiple voltage zones on the same trip.
