110V / 115V / 120V / 127V Power

North America, Central America, Caribbean, parts of South America

Overview

The 110-127V power band covers the United States (120V), Canada (120V), Mexico (127V), Colombia (110V), Venezuela (120V), Cuba (110/220V), and most of Central America and the Caribbean. The frequency is 60Hz throughout. Variations between 110V and 127V are within the tolerance of most modern electronics.

For travelers from 220-240V countries: most modern electronics (laptops, phone chargers, camera batteries) are dual-voltage and work directly with only a plug-shape adapter — North America uses Type A/B plugs. Single-voltage 220V appliances (UK kettles, European hair dryers) need a 110V-to-220V step-up converter sized for the appliance wattage.

For travelers from Japan (100V): no converter needed for dual-voltage devices; very mild voltage increase, generally harmless.
