240V Power
United Kingdom, Australia, Middle East, parts of Asia and Africa
Overview
The 240V power band is the formal nominal voltage for the United Kingdom (legally 230V ±10% since EU harmonisation, but UK distribution still typically delivers 240V), Ireland, Malta, Gibraltar, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Papua New Guinea, much of the Middle East, and several African and Asian countries.
For travelers from 110-127V countries: a 240V-to-110V step-down converter is required for single-voltage 110V appliances. Modern dual-voltage devices (laptops, phone chargers) work directly with only a plug-shape adapter. Most 240V countries use Type G (UK), Type I (AU/NZ), or Type M / Type D (Middle East / African variants) — see the plug-type pages.
For travelers between 220V and 240V countries: no converter needed. The 220V/230V/240V difference is within the tolerance of all dual-voltage equipment.
