About the French (en T) Standard
The French telephone connector (commonly called "en T" for its T-shape) was the standard analogue telephone plug used in France from the 1970s until the late 1990s. The plug has a wide flat body with eight contacts, of which only two are used for analogue voice.
Modern French installations typically use RJ-11; the en T connector is now confined to older residential buildings. France Télécom (now Orange) issued universal RJ-11 adapters during the migration in the late 1990s, and most older buildings now have both connector types available.
